Image
(1) Cool receding colours (2)  Warm / advancing  colours (3) a mix of both advancing and receding colors used together (4) color dominance, subordination and accent color The first one is my cool colours abstract digital painting. I name it < Outside of the window, night >. When I was painting it, mostly I choose colours that represent moon, wind and grasses. The majority of colours are blue. Green and indigo are the same amount of grayscale. Only 2 horizontal line are brighter then others for making image balance. Image 2  shows happy mood, so I name it < Vacation >. Yellow is  quite out standing between the orange and red. Also these colours demonstrate  great contrast to each other. Image 3 I mixed cool and warm colours together to create calm and interesting image. I used cool colours for background to advance the warm colour. We can see yellow is showed quite vividness. I call it < Sunlight grasses >. Compare...

Week6-History-Charles and Ray Eames

Image
This week, we watched a historical movie about the Eameses. Charles and Ray Eames were a husband and wife team whose unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture design industry. Throughout their works, I can feel they loved their work, which was a combination of modern art and science, design and architecture, process and product, style and function. That was and is the "Eames look." I really appreciate their working style. They cooperated well, and most important is that they needed each other. Charles did great design in every pieces of furniture, Ray could turn his  works into art. He made sure their chairs function well, she made them looks good and modern. They cannot succeed if without each other( this is from my opinion). Therefore, they were lucky couple and perfect working partner. Moreover, they made important influence  in art, design, furniture industry. They said " design is the appropriate combination of materials in order to solve a pr...

week5-History of design

Image
"MTV" is a dynamic logo, since 1980s its appearance has kept changing. I feel this is a good concept to do design. First, it keeps the same simple shape, also gives the flexible opportunity to decorate inside the letter M. I think this is the fun way to design, also keep flashing audience's mind. From my opinion, design should keep breaking "rules",  logo doesn't only involve limited colours into one shape. The left bottom one is a controversial one I feel, it's easy to identify but was not easy to understand. For me it doesn’t look awesome ,however, it’s   a way of design, a kind of  d estroy and rebuild. The point is that it is a open mind design, even though it's strange or weird. I think another successful dynamic design is Google. It's fun, works well and is beautiful. I hope I can  produce creative design pieces, so I will keep open mind.

week4-color theory

Image
This week, we visited City Centre Mall.  This building mainly is cool colour theme, the architecture is spruce green. But the wall and floor colour are brown, inside lights and sun light around this mall also create warm atmosphere. These colour management makes this mall even more bright and spacious. Therefore, many shops and advertising display windows' are decorated  to match this colours. Red is complementary colour of green, which is a good colour to catch customers' attention in this green style area; we can see designers use many different value of red to advertise these products. Also red mix with brown can match the floor color and show colour unified. Another good example is this flower store, it doesn't decorate so much, just uses the similar green colours. But this flower shop is attractive because flowers are more bright and beautiful in this green shop. Look, the customers are interested in this flower shop.

Svefn-G-Englar by Sigur Ros When I  first time hear Svefn-G-Englar, this picture shows up in my mind.  I draw a clear hand, because I feel this music is like a blind girl, she can't see anything clear, everything are blurred.  Therefore, she carefully use her hand to explore what is around her.  This music's atmosphere brings me close eyes to enjoy and feel it, the feeling is like rotating in weightlessness space. I choose depth blue to explain unknown weightlessness space. Green represent light, but not very bright or clear. I just give few yellow in some small spots, so this shows warm and hope, but far away. Mostly, I use dark and cool colours to invoke audience empathy. New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down by LCD Soundsystem When I was listening to this music, my mind shows this picture up. At a late night, a man is tangling in a positive and negative emotion. He likes New Yo...

Week3- Postmodernism in Design

Image
Posters communicate with audience by using language, structures, and elements; therefore designers are always looking for interesting layout structures to organize all elements. During 1960s-1990s, design industry has changed dramatically; it called Postmodernism. This new wave of design broke the rules of traditional design; it was an interesting layout structures to place ornaments, symbols. In other words, it created avant-garde visual effects. Poster/April Greinman(USA c1980) Greiman produced a vivid 3D space visual effect. She dynamically placed graphics and also  kept layout balance really well . At the time, technology wasn't as high as nowadays, but designers has very strong creative and design skills. Therefore, many good designs were born. Poster / April Greiman (USA 1988) This poster achieved a striking design style by overlapping  images and abstract layout. She also handled texture, perspective, rotation and balance really well....
